Dental Bonding: Benefits FAQs Before-and-After Contact Us
What is dental bonding?
Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure where a tooth-colored resin is applied to the tooth and hardened with a special light. It’s used to repair chips, cracks, gaps, in teeth, providing a quick and cost-effective way to enhance your smile in a single dental visit.
Dental bonding can be used on 1 tooth or multiple teeth for a full smile restoration. The resin material used is a natural-looking tooth-colored material that will match the shade of your natural teeth. Dental bonding is a cost-effective and versatile smile restoration technique that can treat a variety of dental complications.
Dental Bonding Can:
- Repair broken or chipped teeth
- Treat teeth with spaces or gaps
- Fix cracked teeth
- Brighten discolored teeth
- Even teeth of varying lengths
- Protect exposed roots due to receding gums
- Replace metal fillings
FAQs
What can dental bonding help treat?
Dental bonding can be used to repair a chipped or broken tooth, as well as repair a decayed tooth. If you have teeth that are different lengths, dental bonding can be used to create a more uniform and even smile. Dental bonding may also be right for you if you want to improve the overall shape, size, and color of your teeth. In some cases, the resin material used for dental bonding can even be used to replace metal fillings. Dental bonding helps treat and close a gap between teeth for a closer, fuller-looking smile. Finally, dental bonding can also help protect part of the tooth’s root if your gums have receded.
What can I expect from a dental bonding procedure in NYC?
To begin your dental bonding procedure, Dr. Classi will use a shade guide to select a resin material that is the same shade as your natural teeth. Before any of the resin material is placed on the tooth that is being treated, Dr. Classi will gently roughen the surface of your tooth. This is painless and does not require any anesthesia. A conditioning liquid will then be applied on the tooth, which will help the resin material bond with your natural tooth. The tooth-colored resin material is then applied to the tooth and molded to fit the natural contours of your smile. Depending on what you are having fixed, Dr. Classi may use guides to gently mold the back, front, and sides of the tooth with the resin material. Dr. Classi then carefully sculpts and smoothes the contours of the resin material. A special light is applied to the resin material, which cures the resin. After the tooth-colored resin material has dried, Dr. Classi will finalize the shape of the tooth by trimming and smoothing away irregularities. The final step of your dental bonding procedure is to polish the bonded tooth. The entire process of dental bonding takes 30 to 60 minutes but will vary depending on how many teeth you are having bonded and what you are having treated.
How long will my dental bonding results last?
Bonded teeth are strong, durable, and long-lasting tooth replacements that can last up to 10 years with proper dental care and oral hygiene. In order to maintain healthy bonded teeth, we recommend not chewing on hard candy, ice cubes, or tougher food that may damage your teeth. The longevity of your bonded teeth also will depend on which teeth are being bonded.
Do bonded teeth require special care?
After undergoing a dental bonding procedure, it is important to maintain proper oral hygiene and brush your teeth regularly. We also recommend that you floss daily and continue routine dental exams and cleanings with Dr. Classi. You can treat your bonded teeth as your natural teeth and enjoy almost any food. It is important to note that your bonded teeth are similar to your natural teeth and can be damaged or chipped. We strongly recommend that you do not chew or eat excessively hard foods or attempt to open a package with your teeth. For long-lasting results, maintaining proper oral health and treating your teeth well are both very important steps.
